As someone who has always cherished the joy of creating art, I’m thrilled to share my newest venture: starting an arts and crafts club for kids right in my new garage studio. This space is not just about making art; it’s about nurturing imagination, fostering friendships, and sparking joy through creativity. I can’t wait to invite your little ones on this artistic adventure! Visual Arts are so much more than just fun activities for kids—they are essential for their development! Engaging in creative projects helps children express themselves, improve their fine motor skills, and enhance problem-solving abilities. It’s a wonderful way for them to explore their emotions and ideas in a safe and familiar environment. Plus, the magic of crafting together creates lasting friendships and builds a sense of community that every child can benefit from! Transforming my garage into a welcoming art studio has been a labor of love! I’ve painted the walls in bright, cheerful colors and murals, hung up my own artwork, and organized the space to be functional and inviting. I am super happy with it and can't wait to see it evolve as time goes on! Have you ever wanted to make some space for you and your family's own creative endeavors? Here are a few tips for setting up your own arts and crafts studio with a few simple tasks:
If you need more ideas, I am always here for any questions or inspiration! ~ To ensure a smooth experience, I’m planning to host the club weekly for about two hours. This allows enough time for creativity and a snack without overwhelming the little ones. I’ll be flexible with the schedule to accommodate families’ needs, and I’ll consider splitting sessions by age group if the class fills up, ensuring everyone gets the most out of their creative arts experience. Each session will have a clear structure: welcome, crafting time, snack break, and a final showcase! I also plan to create colorful flyers to distribute in the community, post on social media, and share with local schools. When reaching out to parents, I want to emphasize how beneficial art is for their children’s development, social skills, and overall well-being. I’ll invite parents to attend or volunteer, which not only enhances the experience but also builds a strong community. Creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere is vital for young artists. I’ll promote positivity and celebrate each child’s unique creations, emphasizing that art is about self-expression, not perfection. At the end of each session, we’ll have a mini showcase where kids can display their work, share their inspiration, and cheer each other on. This not only boosts their confidence but also reinforces a sense of belonging. I am incredibly excited to embark on this journey of creativity with your kids in my garage studio! I believe this arts and crafts club will be a wonderful way for children to express themselves, learn new skills, and build lasting friendships. Together, we’ll explore the colorful world of art and make cherished memories. ~ I invite you to join me in this creative adventure! If you’re interested in signing your child up for the club, have questions, or want to share your ideas, please reach out. Follow my journey on social media for updates and inspiration. Therapeutic Prompts for your Art Journal
1/15/2020
We all have those days when the urge to color, doodle, or paint feels like the only remedy—a way to lose ourselves in something soothing and creative. Healing through art, especially after a rough day, week, or even month, can be a powerful form of self-care. It’s essential to find moments to reconnect with that inner well of peace and compassion, giving our minds, bodies, and spirits the attention they need.
I've certainly faced my share of those "stuck" times, full of creative slumps and moodiness, where art was the only way I could truly process what I was feeling. In fact, once I finish writing this, I might just dive into my own journal, because it’s been one of those weeks… To help you reconnect with your creative self, here are some therapeutic art journal prompts. These are open-ended and designed to encourage a gentle flow, so you can explore whatever comes up. Take your time, let go, and see where the journey takes you! 1. Blind Self-Portrait
Have fun exploring these prompts, letting your intuition and creativity lead the way. Embrace whatever surfaces—each piece you create holds a part of your story, unique and ever-evolving. Happy creating, and may this art journey bring you peace and self-discovery. 🌙 In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, creativity has never been more vital. Yet, art education in America faces a significant crisis. Shrinking budgets, shifting priorities, and a growing emphasis on standardized testing have left many schools with little to no room for the arts. This neglect has profound consequences—not just for students, but for society at large.
The Decline of Art in SchoolsOver the past two decades, art programs in public schools have suffered devastating cuts. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, schools with low-income students are often the hardest hit. While STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects dominate funding priorities, the arts are viewed as expendable or even unnecessary. This narrative undermines the value of art as a critical component of holistic education. The arts are not merely “extra” or “optional.” They are essential to fostering innovation, empathy, and emotional intelligence—skills that are crucial in a rapidly changing, interconnected world. Why Art Education Matters
The Long-Term ConsequencesThe marginalization of art education doesn’t just impact individual students—it erodes the cultural fabric of society. Without exposure to the arts, future generations may lack the critical thinking, empathy, and creativity needed to address complex global challenges. In addition, industries that rely on creative minds—design, media, technology, and entertainment—may struggle to find talent. The economic impact of neglecting the arts is far-reaching, stunting innovation and cultural growth. What Can Be Done?
The Time to Act is NowThe crisis of art education in America is not an isolated issue; it reflects broader societal values and priorities. By failing to invest in the arts, we risk losing a generation of creators, innovators, and dreamers. It’s time to challenge the status quo, advocate for change, and reimagine art education as a cornerstone of a well-rounded education. The future depends on it. What are your thoughts on the state of art education? Have you or your children been impacted by cuts to art programs? Let’s keep the conversation going. How Colors Can Help Improve Your Life
4/27/2018
![]() Do you ever feel like a certain color keeps popping up in your daily activities? Do you take notice to this color? You may wonder, what could this possibly mean? ☽ You are connected to what you manifest in to your Life. Paying attention to the messages you may be receiving from the colors that make themselves known aid in the healing that is needed within you. ☽ Colors have long been known to affect the way we perceive - how we perceive information, other human beings and souls, and ourselves. Colors can have such a strong impact that even the negative energies which exist on this planet have used them against our consciousness. (ie. advertisements, the media, etc) We can bring this awareness back to the positive light of what colors can achieve and harness this power to affect authentic change within ourselves - and ultimately the world. Every color out there has a specific connection to the chakra system - the energy centers within our bodies along the spinal central nervous system. This energy coming from each chakra helps our body to communicate with our heart, mind, and soul to create balance and activate optimum energy flow. Colors offer another way to identify needs of the body on this earthly realm. This is the method of philosophy in which I apply to my art-making, art-facilitating, and even my own personal intuitive healing process. Each painting is created using specific color combinations to create a pleasing and meditative state; both while viewing and making the art. As you know, we, as humans, are affected by colors in our moods and daily life. If we expose ourselves to certain colors, we expose ourselves to certain ways we respond to them - consciously and subconsciously. My focus is to guide others in their art-making while teaching about the therapeutic ways in which we may engage colors and their attributes to create an uplifting experience that will last beyond our time together. ☽ I will be going more into detail on each color and it's connection to each individual chakra in seperate posts, as well as techniques in color healing through art and beyond, so please check back or subscribe. Have a beautiful day ☽ Namaste, beautiful souls -Jessica Shy Symbols are fascinating things, aren’t they? So familiar and woven into our everyday lives, yet they often go unnoticed for the powerful tools they really are. Many of us encounter symbols daily, from logos on our favorite brands to cultural or religious icons that carry rich histories and layers of meaning. But here’s the thing: we don’t always realize the power we’re giving them or the potential they hold for real change in our lives.
Symbols and sigils can be much more than just pretty designs or quick identifiers. They’re a form of manifestation that can help focus our intentions, tap into universal energies, and even act as reminders of the goals or states of mind we want to cultivate. So, let’s dive into how we can consciously use symbols to harness their transformative presence in our lives. The Power of Symbols: More Than Meets the EyeEvery symbol you see or create is like a small container of energy. Some symbols, like a heart or a peace sign, have almost universal meanings and emotions attached to them. Others may be more personal, like a particular doodle you find yourself drawing whenever you’re feeling inspired or focused. In each case, symbols hold significance, whether collectively or personally, and they can resonate with us on a deep, often subconscious level. When we intentionally choose or create a symbol, we’re actually choosing to anchor our thoughts and feelings in a tangible, visual form. This is why symbols and sigils are so powerful for manifestation. They’re like beacons, constantly reminding us of what we’re aiming for and helping us stay energetically aligned with our intentions. The Art of Sigils: Personal Symbols for ManifestationSigils are a specific type of symbol that you create yourself, often through a process of combining letters, shapes, or ideas into a unique design. Because they’re infused with personal intention, sigils are especially potent for manifesting. Unlike standard symbols, which have meanings assigned by society or tradition, a sigil is a direct representation of your own goal, dream, or desire. To create a sigil, start with a specific intention or affirmation. Write it down, then begin simplifying the words or phrases into a single shape or abstract design. The final sigil may not look anything like the original words, but that’s part of the magic—it becomes a unique visual expression of your intent, a symbol only you truly understand. After you’ve created your sigil, it’s time to activate it. This can be done in several ways: through meditation, burning it in a ritual, or simply keeping it in a visible place where it will serve as a constant reminder. When activated, a sigil works as a bridge between your conscious desires and the energy you’re directing toward making them a reality. Ways to Use Symbols and Sigils in Daily LifeSymbols and sigils can be powerful allies for living a more intentional, connected life. Here are some ways to incorporate them into your routine to amplify your goals and bring in positive energy:
Final Thoughts: Embracing the Power of SymbolsSymbols and sigils have an incredible ability to make the abstract feel tangible, and they offer us a way to engage more fully with our dreams and desires. By taking the time to select, create, and connect with the symbols that resonate most with us, we’re doing more than just manifesting; we’re building a partnership with our intentions and the energies around us. So next time you come across a symbol that catches your eye, don’t brush it off. Let yourself wonder what it might mean for you. Or better yet, take some time to create your own sigil—something deeply personal that will hold your hopes and intentions. Life gives us so many tools to make our dreams come alive, and symbols are just one of the many magical resources at our disposal. Use them with intention, and watch how they help you transform your reality. ✨ 🌈 How to Create an Inspirational Vision Board

The world around us hums with unseen energy, and nowhere is this symphony more evident than in the plant kingdom. As an artist and nature enthusiast, we are uniquely positioned to interpret this connection—infusing it into our creative expressions and everyday lives.
The Energy of PlantsPlants are much more than beautiful fixtures of our landscapes. They are living beings that interact dynamically with the energy around them. Science tells us that plants respond to light, sound, and even human touch. Some studies suggest they can "sense" their environment in a way that borders on awareness. From photosynthesis to their ability to clean the air, plants are masters of energy transformation. For centuries, cultures around the globe have recognized the energetic properties of plants. Herbalists tap into their healing powers, while shamans and spiritual practitioners view plants as allies in connecting to the unseen forces of the universe. Art as a Portal to Nature's EnergiesArtists can tap into the plant kingdom’s energy by creating work inspired by the shapes, colors, and vibrational patterns of nature. A leaf’s fractal pattern, the vibrant hues of a wildflower, or the resilience of moss growing on stone—all of these can serve as metaphors for the deep relationship between life and energy. One moment we feel like we’ll live forever, and in the next, we’re reminded of the impermanence of our world. Yet, despite knowing this, we often put things off “until tomorrow,” as if there will always be time to do what we love, to follow our passions, or to connect with our true desires. But why do we wait? Why do we linger in that safe zone of "someday," drifting farther from what truly excites us?
Life isn’t meant for waiting; it’s meant for living. We may feel adrift sometimes, but we’ve been given countless tools, inspirations, and devices to create and play. We just need to pick them up, explore, and enjoy the process. So, instead of holding out for the “perfect” moment, let’s create it ourselves! Here are some ideas on how to play and live more creatively every day, helping us connect with our true selves and cultivate a more joyful, fulfilling existence. 1. Make Things More Interesting: Add a Splash of ColorIf you feel your environment is bland, try adding some color to your world! A fresh coat of paint on a piece of furniture or a vibrant painting on the wall can transform a dull space into one that sparks joy and inspiration. If you’re feeling bold, go even bigger and paint a mural! Adding color isn’t just about aesthetics; it uplifts your mood and adds character to your surroundings. Color has the power to evoke feelings of warmth, comfort, or energy, so let it be a tool you use to enhance your living space and your mind. 2. Take Risks: Step Outside Your Comfort ZoneSometimes, we stay in our bubbles, doing only what feels familiar, because it feels safe. But living creatively means shaking things up! What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to try but hesitated because it seemed too scary, too different, or too silly? It could be singing in public, signing up for an improv class, or trying a new art form. Allow yourself to be vulnerable and open to new experiences. When we take risks and push past the walls of our comfort zones, we grow, discover new passions, and sometimes even stumble upon talents we didn’t know we had. 3. Be Messy: Embrace Imperfection and Create FreelyCreativity doesn’t have to be neat and tidy. Let things get messy! Sometimes the most beautiful art emerges from a glorious mess. Start a painting, a collage, or a DIY project, and don’t worry about the cleanup or the end result. Just enjoy the process of creating. The act of making something with your hands—of getting covered in paint, glue, or fabric—is liberating. When you let go of the need for perfection, you’ll discover a new level of creative freedom. Afterward, step back and admire the beauty within the chaos. That mess is a physical reminder of the joy and release of pure, unfiltered creativity. 4. Wear Your True Self: Express Your Personality FearlesslyCreativity isn’t just for art; it’s in how you live and present yourself to the world. Don’t be afraid to wear your personality on your sleeve—literally! If you love mismatched socks, hats with quirky patterns, or colorful tutus, wear them. Clothing can be a playful, joyful way to show the world who you are. Don’t let societal expectations of “normal” hold you back from expressing yourself fully. Embrace a wardrobe that makes you smile, even if it means going against the grain. When you let your unique style shine, you’re not only connecting with your true self but also inspiring others to do the same. Finding Joy in the EverydayLiving creatively is about finding joy in the everyday, refusing to wait for a “perfect” moment to finally start exploring what makes you happy. It’s a mindset—a way of seeing the world that finds wonder in the simple and beauty in the mundane. When we embrace play, curiosity, and a little bit of whimsy, we bring more joy to our lives and to those around us. Remember, life isn’t a dress rehearsal. This is your one unique journey, and the world needs the art, color, and spirit that only you can bring. So start today: add a splash of color, take a small risk, embrace a beautiful mess, and wear your truest self. And, most importantly, enjoy every creative, playful moment along the way! - The New Beginning of A Magical Adventure
7/29/2017
Wow. BIG WOW.
If you told me I was starting a new adventure in art/business about a year ago, I would say ok, yeah right, how? How with a one year old, three more months until we move, and with three other self-employed jobs? Well, that question was answered. And the New Moon made it happen... The New Moon in Leo.. dear goodness, it rocked me. In so many ways and on so many levels. I was struggling. Struggling to feel motivated in my current endeavors, struggling to keep the same life I managed with the new life I made, struggling with loving myself, struggling with battles in my own mind... I just needed to get out of there. And I did.. but not with a little help. With a little self-love - ok a LOT of self love - and some wise words and hugs and more love from the very Goddesses who inspire me every day... I was able to bring myself back to center. I was actually able to ground myself, once again, into the very goal which inspired me from the beginning... To inspire - and be inspired. I finally felt this pull, this glorious motivation, a whirling momentum.. and after releasing a lot during the Leo New Moon - that being doubt most of all - I finally felt it was freaking enough. Enough was enough. It was time I surrender. So I surrendered to the call. The call to guide others in painting with their whole Creative Self and unlock their full potential. This is my one hope - that this helps others transform their lives the way it transformed me. My energy and my soul responded to one word with that New Moon Ritual which rocked my professional world - the word was RECEIVE. And receive I did! I am open to receive. I am open to listen. I am open to open. Will you open your soul, your heart, your creative mind, with me? Let's do it! Love and Blessings, my dear ones. Jessica Shy |
